Michael Vick signs with the Jets

Michael Vick's Eagles career concluded on Friday following five eventful seasons when the 33-year-old quarterback signed with the New York Jets.
Vick agreed to a one-year deal with the Jets that will pay him $5 million in 2014. It was the best - and perhaps the only - opportunity for Vick to compete for a starting job. The Jets also released Mark Sanchez. Vick's competition will be second-year player Geno Smith, who had an inconsistent rookie season.
"It is an honor to be a member of the New York Jets," Vick said in a statement. "The organization is strong and I look forward to an exciting football season. I will express my gratitude for the city of Philadelphia. For now, I am humbled to play the game I love as an NFL QB."
The deal reunites Vick with Jets offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, who called plays for the Eagles when Vick had his finest NFL season. Jets coach Rex Ryan must win in 2014 after missing the playoffs in three consecutive seasons.
"He's here in a role where he's going to compete and push Geno Smith to become the very best that he can be," Mornhinweg said in a statement on the Jets website. "Michael will be able to go in and play at a high level and a winning if called upon."
In five seasons with Philadelphia, Vick recorded a 20-20 record as a starting quarterback. He completed 59.5 percent of his passes for 9,984 yards, 57 touchdowns, and 33 interceptions. He also rushed for 1,998 yards and 15 touchdowns.
